The alloy case isn't just an optical highlight, it also increases the durability of the fan.

The fan spins at 25,000 RPM at 8.4V and features a dual ball bearing design. 

A fan is meant to be a wearing part and is not build for a long lifetime. Due to mechanical damages, burned electronics, missing grease or due to bumps, the fan can wear of with time.
In a RC Car a fan can fail from one day to another, sometimes without showing a definite reason. With a very unlucky bump, especially in offroad use, it sometimes only lasts one race. 
Therefore we recommend to always carry a spare with you, in case you'll need it.
